ENABLING 'HOMEGROWN' TELECOMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY - Contract Signing Between IC MICROSYSTEMS Sdn Bhd And Telekom Malaysia Berhad

IC MICROSYSTEMS Sdn Bhd [ICmic] today announced that they have signed a two-year contract worth RM13.87 million to supply single line caller-ID telephone to Telekom Malaysia Berhad [TM]. The telephone will be 'powered' by home-grown phone IC [chip] that was conceptualized and developed locally by ICmic. "We are very excited by the trust given to us and this is recognition by TM of our capability in spearheading local technology" said Abd Rashid Munir, President and Chief Executive Officer of ICmic.

The latest award of telephone supplies by TM, which incorporates both ICmic's phone IC [ICM7101D] and phone module, demonstrates the high competency of ICmic Malaysian engineers in developing local-based technology. "The highlight of this award is that the telephone will be the first that are being supplied to TM which integrates our well accepted locally designed and developed Single-Chip Phone IC i.e. ICM7101D. We would like to thank TM for encouraging and recognizing local based technology" added Abd Rashid.

The manufacturing aspect of the telephone is outsourced in line with ICmic's fabless IC design business model thereby enabling ICmic to establish local supplier/partner entrepreneur development.
